Sending Out Videos with Messages of Diversity and Peace for Sustainable Tourism
The Chichijima Mirai Conference has been considering through the meetings held throughout the year of sending out videos on how the future of Chichijima should be from the perspective of sustainable tourism.
We want the people who visit Chichijima to not simply be visitors, but to establish a relationship as "family" that understands the values and background of Chichijima--from this wish, we decided that the themes of this year's activities would be diversity and peace. The history of Chichijima is also a history of diversity. Many islanders have roots in the Americas, Europe, and Polynesia. The island has been taking in diverse cultures and transplants as it formed its identity as Chichijima. Additionally, Chichijima is an island that has experienced war and many battle scars still remain. We wanted to share that Chichijima was a place to confirm anew the misery of war and the importance of peace.

The Diversity video shares a message that the diversity of Chichijima's culture is what makes the island attractive. The video incorporates not only the beauty of the fauna of the sea and flora of the land, but also the sentiment that the islanders warmly welcome diverse people. The video also conveys how people of various backgrounds, both the people who grew up on the island as well as the transplants, connect and live on the island.

Peace addresses the battle scars of Chichijima. It incorporates the message that the history of World War II will be handed down without decaying and that we intend to protect the beautiful and bountiful nature of Chichijima.

We wanted not only the members of the Chichijima Mirai Conference, but also the islanders to understand these videos, so we made videos that send out a message to the islanders as well. Through these videos, we share how we want to develop Chichijima based on living environmentalism, where local products and services are consumed and cycled within the community to increase demand and consumption within the island, the current status of Chichijima, and the background to sharing the two videos produced this year.
The aim is to recruit people to become new members of the Chichijima Mirai Conference to think about the future of the island together.
