The "Oga Log" Is Well Underway With The Official Website Launched!

On Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, one of the pillars of the FY 2021 initiative is the operation and further development of the "Ogasawara Traveler's Log" ("Oga Log" for short), a travel notebook that offers special benefits on the island. Last year's crowdfunding campaign set a goal of 2 million yen, and achieved 2.12 million yen. This result confirms the deep-rooted popularity of the Ogasawara Islands.

In June 2021, the Oga Log was sent to 135 crowdfunding supporters. Originally, supporters were supposed to be able to visit the island from July and receive discounts and other benefits at participating stores. However, due to the continued state of emergency, it seems that it is only now that the island can begin to fully welcome tourists using the Oga Log.

Meanwhile, work on internet projects has actively continued. In June, the Oga Log website (https://ogalog.jp/）was launched, and together with Instagram and Facebook, it provides information about the island.

Oga Log is managed by the "Oga Log General Incorporated Association," which is made up of the project members. The goal is to make Oga Log profitable and to be able to continue the project's activities. To achieve this, it is important to not only launch a website for sharing information, but also to develop a business that can generate revenue.

In September, the Oga Log website was equipped with an E-commerce function（https://ogalog.stores.jp). As of October 2021, only the Oga Log notebook is available, but the E-commerce portal means that the site can support stores on the island that have difficulty developing E-commerce on their own. This will also connect to initiatives to sell products from the island.

There are also activities planned that go beyond web-based communication. These include developing products using non-native trees that are considered to have a negative impact on the ecosystem, and developing "environmental conservation content" for education that draws on Ogasawara's abundant nature.

Hopefully, this initiative can continue and the "Oga Log" will develop into a wonderful tool for exchange between the residents of the island and visitors.
