Aiming to create food experiences and spaces that "connect people to Mikurashima"

Mikurashima's brand concept is "an island where everything becomes special and treasures you." Since discussions began in FY2019, meeting members have been thinking about creating experience-oriented content and spaces where people can feel their own "specialness" through the island's history, culture, and food. Through these experiences and spaces, members hope to create relationships with skilled people who respect the island's customs and can live in harmony with the islanders. In FY2020, they will deepen their discussions about "creating spaces to gather on the island," a topic that they have been discussing so far, and work toward the creation of experiences and spaces that will connect people to Mikurashima.

The approach that all the island's participants share is to "start small." Since Mikurashima's nature and way of life are the attractions of the island, it is important to protect them the way they are. Members will proceed to exchange opinions while being mindful to keep the initial costs of the initiative low and to make the initiative one that members can start immediately and keep up without having to create something new or placing too large of a burden on themselves.

While discussing how to create spaces where island residents and tourists, including everyone from children to the elderly, can gather casually, members came up with the idea of using a food truck or other mobile vendor. This idea was based on the fact that Mikurashima has many slopes and few inhabitable areas, a limited number of usable facilities, and few places to eat out on the island. This idea also accounts for the "New Lifestyle" of the COVID-19 era.

Not only can the food truck create a space for all types of people to gather casually, but it is also expected to serve as a space for people who want to be involved in new initiatives to take on such challenges. Therefore, it was decided to continue discussing what preparations need to be made to introduce a food truck in the future.
