Since FY2019, under the island's brand concept of "an island with picturesque views and superb oceans that waken your strengths," members of Aogashima's meeting have been discussing how to help visitors learn more about Aogashima's nature and way of life. Specifically, they have been considering creating a visiting population through the meaningful use of drone aerial photography/videography and holding interactive gatherings limited to people who have visited the island.

However, since the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for people to travel to and from the island, the first follow-up meeting held in October was used to share information about the state of tourism to the island and the status of island accommodations during the pandemic.

Regarding the number of visitors to the island in summer 2020, members commented that the number of people leaving Aogashima to return home had decreased, and that it was a quieter summer than usual due to the cancellation of festivals and other events.
On the other hand, members also mentioned that reservations gradually started coming in from July, and there were many guests in August; that there were long-term guests, including remote workers; and that Aogashima is attracting attention as a secluded, unexplored corner of Japan, and inquiries from the media and tour companies have increased. These comments revealed that there are a certain number of visitors and prospective visitors who still wish to come to the island.

Right now, it is more difficult to engage in casual communication than during normal times. It is precisely because of this situation, however, that meeting members hope to build relationships with Aogashima fans by clearly conveying what the current situation on the island is like to those who wish to visit.
In light of the current circumstances, in FY2020, members will consider what can be done to better facilitate communication with people who visit Aogashima and people who are interested in the island, as well as how to effectively inform people of the island's attractions and the precautions that need to be taken when visiting the island.

In addition, in order to share information with people who visit the island to engage in drone aerial photography/videography (a visitor segment that has been on the rise in recent years), members plan to organize information such as how to enjoy photographing and filming the island and points that need to be observed when shooting, and communicate this information to visitors.

At the next meeting, they will discuss these communication methods in concrete detail, referring to case examples from other regions.
